SIGN THE PETITION asking Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Joel Klein to repeal the new Chancellor regulation A-812 banning home-cooked foods from being sold in our schools and bring the great American bake sale back. Please don’t donate online, since your donations go to ipetitions and not nycgreenschools.org.

Mr. Mayor: While I commend your initiative to create a soft-drink tax as a win-win idea for the health of people and our budget, isn’t it going just a tad too far in banning bake sales from schools? Bake sales, after all, are usually the home-spun fruits of health-conscious folks who use natural, and I hope, organic ingredients; as opposed to the processed, corn syrup and fat-laden processed foods sold in vending machines. Is this really the message we want to send to our children? Is this truly part of the legacy you wish to leave behind? Given your soda tax proposal, it is, at best, completely incongruous, and at worst, a boon to mega corporations that should not be proffering their wares to a captive audience of innocent, naive children.
As a concerned parent, with a kindergartner in public school, in advance, thank you for re-thinking this policy
